Storage & warehousing

Not ready to move in yet? We'll keep it safe.

Sometimes your old home is gone before your new one is ready. Sometimes you are going abroad for a year, or your flat is being painted, or your office is shifting floors. In each case, you need a clean, safe place to keep your things for a while.

Lifter Shifter picks up your goods, packs them properly, lists and photographs them, stores them, and brings them back when you are ready. For a few days or many months, for a home or a business.

Ask about storage

Tell us the basics. We will call you back with options and a clear price.

We usually call back within 30 minutes. Your number stays with us.

How long you need

A few days, a few months, or longer

You do not need to know the exact date you will want your things back. Tell us roughly how long, and we will plan the packing to suit. Goods kept for a week need good packing. Goods kept for a year need even better packing, because dust, damp and time all do their work slowly.

Your plans can also change midway. A three-week gap can become three months if the builder delays possession. That is fine. You can extend the storage period with a call, and if you need things back earlier than planned, we can arrange that too. You pay only for the time your goods actually stay with us, as per the terms in your quote.

Short-term storage

For gaps of a few days to a few weeks. Your lease ends on the 30th but the new flat is free only on the 10th. Or the new home needs a deep clean and some plumbing work before you move in. We pick up, store and deliver on the date you choose, often as part of your house shifting.

Long-term storage

For several months or more. You are posted abroad for two years, or you are giving up a rented flat while you work in another city. We pack with extra protection against dust and moisture, wrap furniture fully, and keep a detailed record so your goods come back the way they went in.

What we store

Household goods and business goods

For homes, we store everything you would normally move: beds, sofas, dining tables, wardrobes, the steel almirah, fridge, washing machine, TV, cartons of kitchen things, books, clothes and children's toys. You can store the whole house or just a few things, like the extra furniture that will not fit in your smaller new flat.

Many people use storage to slowly sort out a home. Keep everything with us, take back what fits in the new place, and decide calmly about the rest.

Warehouse staff move a wrapped sofa on a dolly between racks of palletised household goods

For businesses, we store office furniture, files and records, spare computers, display units, shop fixtures and stock that is not perishable or hazardous. This helps when you are moving offices in stages, renovating a showroom, closing a branch for a while, or simply running out of space in your own premises.

Business goods are listed carton by carton, so you can ask for one particular box of files without having everything brought out. We can also deliver to a different address from the one we picked up from, which is useful when an office is moving to a new building.

Who uses storage

Life does not always line up neatly

Storage is not only for big moves. Here are the situations we see most often. If yours is different, tell us. We will work out a plan.

Between two homes

Your old lease ends before the new one starts, or your new flat's possession is delayed. Your things wait with us, not in a relative's garage.

During renovation

Painting, flooring or a new modular kitchen. Move the furniture out, keep it free of dust and paint, and bring it back when the work is done.

Job transfers

Moving to a company flat that is already furnished, or to a city for a short posting. Store your own furniture until you return.

NRIs and families abroad

Going abroad for some years but not ready to sell everything? Rent out your flat and keep your belongings safely stored in India.

Students

Leaving the hostel or PG for summer break or an internship? Store a few cartons, a mattress and a cycle instead of carrying them home.

Businesses

Extra furniture, old records, seasonal stock or equipment from a closed branch. Free up costly office space and keep things listed.

How we store

Packed, listed, photographed, then stored

The difference between good storage and a dusty godown is in the details. If you do not know what went in, you cannot be sure what came out. So every item gets a tag, a line on a list and a photo before it is put away.

When you need something back, we look up the list, find the tag and bring out exactly that item. No digging through piles, no "we will check and call you".

  1. 1

    Packed for storage

Strong cartons for small things, foam and stretch film for furniture, covers for mattresses and sofas. Fragile items get bubble wrap and are marked so they are never stacked under heavy boxes.

  2. 2

    Listed and tagged

Each carton and each piece of furniture gets a number. The inventory says what it is, where it came from and its condition. You check and sign the list at pickup and get your own copy.

  3. 3

    Photographed

We take photos of larger items and of how your goods are packed. These help you remember what you stored, and they give both of us a clear record of condition.

  4. 4

    Stored off the floor

Goods are kept on pallets or racks, not directly on the floor, with heavy items at the bottom. Your things are kept together as one lot, so nothing gets mixed with another customer's.

Keeping your goods safe

Safety measures, explained honestly

We would rather tell you exactly what is in place than make big claims. Ask your move manager about the specific facility your goods will go to. You are also welcome to visit before you decide.

CCTV cameras

Cameras watch the entry points and storage areas, so there is a record of who comes and goes.

Regular pest control

Termites and rats are the biggest risk to stored furniture and cartons in India. Regular treatment keeps them away.

Fire safety equipment

Fire extinguishers placed around the space and checked from time to time. No smoking, cooking or open flames inside.

Covered, locked space

Goods are kept indoors, under a roof, behind locked doors, and raised off the floor so a wet monsoon day does not reach them.

Limited access

Only our staff handle stored goods. Your things are released only to you or to someone you name in writing.

Storage insurance

Insurance for stored goods may be available at an extra cost. We will explain what it covers before you decide. About insurance

Access to your goods

Need something back before the move-in date?

It happens all the time. Winter arrives and the quilts are in storage. Your child needs last year's books. You want the pressure cooker back because you are tired of ordering food. You can ask for specific items to be taken out at any point during your storage.

Just tell your move manager the box numbers from your inventory, or describe the item. You can collect it from the facility during our working hours (8 am to 9 pm), with a little notice, or we can deliver it to you for a small charge. Please give us two days' notice so the right boxes are ready.

Pickup and redelivery

From your door, and back to any door

You do not need to hire a separate tempo to bring things to us. Our team comes to your home or office, packs on the spot, loads our vehicle and takes everything to storage. You never have to lift a thing.

When you are ready, tell us the date and the address. It can be your old address, a new flat in the same city, or a new home in another city altogether, combined with our intercity relocation. We deliver, unload, place items in the right rooms and put your main furniture back together. Before we leave, you tick off the inventory to confirm everything is back.

Lease over on Friday. New flat ready in three weeks. Your sofa does not need to know.

Why store with a mover

One team for packing, storing and moving

You could rent a room or a self-storage unit and arrange the rest yourself. But then you need a tempo, labourers, packing material and a lot of your own time, twice. Storing with a moving company puts all of that in one plan.

Packed by people who pack every day

The same trained packers who handle house shifting pack your goods for storage, with the right material for each item.

Fewer trips, less handling

Your goods go straight from your home to storage in our vehicle, and straight from storage to your new home. Less lifting means less risk of damage.

One quote, one contact

Pickup, storage and delivery are on one written quote. One move manager knows your goods and your dates from start to finish.

Plans can change

If the new flat is delayed again, or you suddenly get transferred, we adjust the dates or the delivery city without starting over.

What cannot be stored

A few things must stay with you

Some items are a danger to everyone's goods in the facility, and some simply should not be left with anyone else. We will remind you on pickup day, but it helps to set these aside before the team arrives.

If you are not sure about an item, like an inverter battery or a bottle of ghee, ask us. It is far easier to sort out before packing than after.

  • Flammable or dangerous goods: gas cylinders, kerosene, petrol, paints, thinners, firecrackers and chemicals.
  • Food and perishables: grains, pickles, sweets, spices and anything that can rot or attract pests.
  • Plants and living things: potted plants, soil and, of course, pets.
  • Cash and valuables: jewellery, gold, cash and original property or identity papers. Keep these in a bank locker or with you.
  • Anything illegal: including weapons, drugs and stolen goods.
Pricing

What decides your storage cost

Storage is usually charged per month, starting from ₹2,500 per month. The final figure depends on a few simple things. Your written quote shows each one separately, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

What affects the priceWhy it matters
How much you storeA few cartons need far less space than a full 3 BHK. Space is the main part of the monthly charge.
How long you storeLonger bookings may get a better monthly rate. Ask your move manager.
Packing materialLong-term storage needs more wrapping and stronger cartons. This is a one-time cost.
Pickup and redeliveryCharged for the trips to and from storage, based on distance, floor and lift access.
Insurance (optional)Based on the value of the goods you choose to cover.

Where we store

Storage tips

Get your things ready so they come back fresh

We take care of the packing, but a little preparation from your side makes a real difference, especially for long-term storage.

Furniture

Clean and dry it fully before pickup. Damp wood can grow fungus in a closed space. Empty all drawers and the almirah. We open beds and tables where we can, wrap them, and keep the screws in a labelled bag. Avoid storing a sofa with food stains or crumbs, as they attract pests.

Electronics and appliances

Defrost and dry the fridge a day before, and leave its door slightly open in storage so it does not smell. Drain the washing machine. Take batteries out of remotes and toys, as they can leak. Keep original boxes for the TV if you still have them.

Clothes and linen

Wash and fully dry everything before packing. Put a few naphthalene balls or neem leaves in a cloth pouch between layers. Silk sarees and woollens do better folded in cotton cloth than sealed in plastic. Keep the clothes you will need in the next season out of storage.

Cartons and papers

Put things you may need soon in a box marked "first out", and tell us its number. Keep a photo of your inventory on your phone. For business files, add a simple index so you know which box holds which year.

Common questions

Questions about storage

Here are the questions people usually ask before storing their things with us. If yours is not here, call or message us.

Read all questions

What is the shortest time I can store for?

Storage is usually booked by the month, with a minimum of one month. For very short gaps during a move, ask us about a combined shifting and storage price.

Can I extend my storage period?

Yes. Just tell your move manager before the current period ends, and we will extend it at the agreed monthly rate.

Can I visit and see my goods?

Yes, with prior notice, during our working hours (8 am to 9 pm). A staff member will be with you while you check your things.

Will my things be mixed with other people's goods?

No. Your goods are tagged and kept together as one lot, so they stay separate from other customers' things.

Can you deliver to a different city?

Yes. We can bring your goods out of storage and move them to a new home anywhere we operate in India, as one planned move.

How do I pay?

Your move manager will explain the payment schedule in your written quote, including any advance and the monthly charges.

Do I need to be present at pickup?

It is best if you or someone you trust is there to check and sign the inventory. That list is your record of what went into storage.

Need a safe place for your things?

Tell us what you want to store and for how long. We will call you back with a clear price. No pressure, no obligation.
